2013

Well Project Provides a Sustainable New Source of Water

IRWD’s Wells 21 and 22 Rehabilitation, Pipelines and Water Treatment project in 2013 was honored by the American Society of Engineers Orange County Branch and the Orange County Engineering Council.  The project recovers and treats local impaired groundwater for use in the District’s drinking water system. Adding this new source of water (approximately 6,300 acre-feet per year) provides a sustainable infrastructure with long-term benefits.

2012

IRWD Resident Tours Help Educate About Recycled Water

The District’s recurring Resident Tours of the Michelson Water Recycling Plant were lauded by the Public Relations Society of American with the local chapter’s PROTOS award for community relations. Educating customers about the many benefits of recycled water has been an integral part of the District’s outreach, ever since IRWD started recycling water more than 50 years ago.

Rideshare Program: Good for Traffic, Good for the Environment

Ridesharing is an important part of IRWD’s sustainability plan. In 2011, the District received the Rideshare Diamond Award from the Los Angeles Metro, Orange County Transportation Authority and the Ventura County Transportation Commission. The awards recognize the District for its contribution to the improvement of air quality and relief of traffic congestion.

Educational Programming Benefits the Whole Community

Irvine Ranch Water District in 2010 received the Public Outreach & Education Award from the California Association of Sanitation Agencies for its ongoing outreach and education to local students.  IRWD partners with schools, Sea & Sage Audubon and Discovery Cube of Orange County on a variety of educational programs.
