Checkered Flag Express Car Wash

Checkered Flag Express Car Wash, at 23581 Rockfield Blvd. in Lake Forest, is a state-of-the-art car wash business. Since opening in mid-2018 as a fully automated car wash, Checkered Flag has employed a water reclaim system that uses approximately 75% less drinking water on average for each vehicle washed, compared to traditional nonreclaim car wash methods.

For instance, a typical automatic nonreclaim car wash station uses 50-80 gallons per vehicle. The Checkered Flag Express Car Wash reclaimed water system uses less than 20 gallons per vehicle, based upon the current number of vehicles washed there each month. The water used by Checkered Flag's customers is cleaned through filtration or treatment systems before it is used again, and eventually released to IRWD's sewage collection system. This is how Checkered Flag has been able to save an average of 6.3 million gallons per year of drinking water.

Irvine Ranch Water District awarded WaterStar certification to Checkered Flag Express Car Wash to recognize the company's commitment to using water efficiently and protecting urban water quality. "We are continually looking for ways to improve the auto washing process by using quality water more efficiently," explained Chuck Morris, business operations director.

The International Carwash Association has also certified Checkered Flag as one of its WaterSavers.
